"Working with Older Adults"
Presenter: Mary Giffin, Ph.D., Walsh University
Mary Giffin will present an original monologue that dramatizes the experience of an older adult who is now wheelchair bound. She will lead a discussion around what losses older adults experience and how to tap into the wisdom and strengths that which older adults possess. Ideas will be shared on how to assist older clients with organizing, with the focus on letting go of possessions when needing/wanting to downsize, ways to cope with a different pace, and maintaining focus when frustration is high.
Mary Giffin, Ph.D., is an Associate professor of English at Walsh University, where she teaches English composition and literature. Her special interest is drama, and she has also been a professional actor and playwright, as well as a family caregiver, for many years.
